Originally from Iraq, Aws emigrated to Ukraine to finish his degree in mechanical engineering. After being displaced by the war, Aws and his family were welcomed as refugees to Burns Lake, B.C., one of the many vibrant and bustling communities along the Coastal GasLink project route.

Indigenous construction monitors on Coastal GasLink ensure transparency with communities during construction
We first met Brianna in 2019, when she joined Coastal GasLink’s Construction Monitoring and Community Liaison (CMCL) program. The CMCL program provides a vital link between project construction and Indigenous communities, ensuring that Indigenous values and the environment are protected during construction. Through the CMCL program, Indigenous members are selected by their communities to monitor construction and report back to their communities about what they see.
