William Peter (Pete) Turner of Robson, B.C. passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2004. He was born December 27, 1920 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.
Pete was married in 1946 and is survived by his loving wife Josephine Mary of Robson.
Pete was a wonderful father to Barbara Jeanne Watson-Turner of Kelowna, Clifford Robert William of Quesnel and Susan Alyce Ford of Penticton. Grandchildren include Richard Worthing and David Pirie of Kelowna, Clinton Turner of Qualicum Beach, Curtis Turner of Quesnel, Kim Turner of Courtenay, Marvin Ford of Penticton and Deanna Bueckert of Burns Lake. There are also 11 great grandchildren.
Pete was a resident of British Columbia since 1949, first working at the Cominco smelter in Trail, he then moved to Burns Lake in 1954 and worked at sawmills, then the court house and as a captain of the Francois Lake ferry until 1990.
Pete and Jo retired to Robson in 1991. Pete served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941 until 1945 notably on the aircraft carrier Nabob when she was torpedoed off the coast of Norway. He was active in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, Past President of the Legion Branch 50 and a strong advocate of the justice and freedom he fought for in the Second World War.
He will be sadly missed by all.
