William George Blighton passed away in the Mills Memorial Hospital, Terrace, B.C. on January 18th, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 10, 1927 in Kelowna, B.C., then moved with his parents and two sisters to a small homestead near McBride, B.C. where four more sisters and one brother joined the family. At the age of 15, he left home to explore the working world.
He worked at small jobs in the McBride area then moved to Prince George.
After working at odd jobs, he got the sawmill bug and joined his Uncle Russ, in Burns Lake, where they set up small bush mills. In 1950 at the age of 23, he became Legal Guardian to his three younger sisters. George remained in Burns Lake for a number of years, where he met and married Edna. They became proud parents of Wayne, Patsy, Raymond, Donna and Sandra.
They moved to Terrace in 1960 where he worked in logging and for BC Hydro until retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Edna. Children: Wayne (Donna), Patsy, Raymond (Leona), Donna (Doug) and Sandra (Greg).
Thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Sisters: Lois, Gladys and Elsie (Art) of Prince George, Wilma (Nelson) of Vernon, Ruth of Edmonton and Doris (Elmer) of Burns Lake.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
