In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Evans on October 5, 2023.
Shirley will be missed dearly by her husband Tom, daughter Toby, son-in-law Trevor, grandsons Jaxson and Iver, and all her many friends made over a lifetime.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Nancy and Joan, and her brother Ted.
Shirley was born in Invermay, Saskatchewan, to parents Warren Carl Evans and Harriet Marie Innis. In her early years, Shirley moved to Burnaby, where her family lived for a number of years.
After high school, Shirley went to Simon Fraser University to become a teacher. When she graduated from SFU, there were limited teaching jobs available, and she moved to London, England, and worked in an airport.
After two years in London, she landed a teaching job at Grassy Plains on the south side of Francois Lake. Shirley fell in love with the beautiful country side that surrounded Burns Lake and with a local fellow called Tom Blair. Shirley and Tom built a beautiful life for themselves on a remote property on Tchesinkut Lake. It was in these early years that they travelled extensively for many months at a time. Eventually, they welcomed their first and only child, Toby.
The family of three enjoyed hanging out with neighbours and friends, swimming, skiing, and skating on Tchesinkut Lake. They also loved to get away on trips to see family in Vancouver, visit friends near and far, and occasionally soak up some sun in Mexico.
After Grassy Plains, Shirley taught at Muriel Mould Primary School for the majority of her 32-year teaching career. Shirley's primary teaching skills came in handy when Toby and her husband Trevor had two boys, Jaxson and Iver.
Shirley was the grandmother that parents and grandchildren dream about. Shirley was always keen to do crafts, read, bake, and play outside with her beloved grandsons.
Shirley's warm, loving, and positive spirit will always be remembered and loved by friends and family. May she rest in eternal peace.
