March 25, 1925 - March 2, 2023
In loving memory ~
Reginald G. Worthing of Burns Lake passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023 with his wife and family members at his side.
Reg was born on March 25, 1925 in Drumheller, AB. He was raised on a farm in the Irma/Wainwright area. Being one of thirteen children, he quickly learned the importance of hard work and responsibility. He first attended the Battle Height's Elementary School and his senior years in Irma. It was here that he and his wife-to-be attended community dances and social functions.
Reg married Pearl Walker on May 4, 1946 in Wainwright. After their first child was born in 1949, they boarded the train for Palling BC where they lived for a short time with the Orr family. Both Reg and Harry worked at the Planer mill in Burns Lake. After acquiring funds, knowledge and skills they logged and ran their own mill at Pinkut Lake.
A move closer to a school took them to Decker Lake where they chose to raise their family. Reg worked a small sawmill and he and Pearl a farm. Over time he was a heavy equipment operator for the Dept of Highways and later transferred to the shop and trained to be a heavy duty mechanic. He continued logging and farming practices into his retirement years, always busy and forever providing.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Fishing was his passion, and he enjoyed hunting, rock collecting, and berry picking. He liked to read and to listen to music. He also believed in community and volunteering and served several terms on the Decker Lake Recreation Commission and later the Regional District Board.
Reg was preceded in death by his son Gordon, his parents, sisters Jean, Joy, Myrtle, Violet and by his brothers Johnny and Allan. He is survived by his sisters Connie, Shirley, and Lorna as well as brothers Ralph, Dennis, and Wayne. He leaves behind his loving wife Pearl of 76 years and their children Lloyd (Sharilyn), Roger, Linda (Ritch), Vera (Bob), Shirley (Richard), Karen and also 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is very grateful to his doctors and all staff at The Pines care facility for their continued care and support.
There will be no service as per his wishes.
