October 23, 1931 - November 6, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
We sadly announce the passing of Margaret Berg on November 6, 2023. Margaret was born in Burns Lake on October 23, 1931, the only child of James and Rosa Gowans.
She grew up on the Boer Mountain farm and spent her time helping her dad on the farm, delivering milk when she got older and working with her dad in logging camps. On July 6, 1951, she married Erling Berg. They spent 72 years together.
In the beginning they lived in logging camps: Kitwanga, Endako and other small places, then they moved to Burns Lake. Margaret started delivering milk again, then had a dress shop before they packed up and moved to New Hazelton in 1966 for Erling's work. Margaret worked at Mays Specialty Shop until getting a job in the office for Stege Logging, working there for several years before retiring.
Margaret and Erling had a cabin on Babine Lake at Topley Landing, spending lots of time there and hosting frequent visitors. They often went to Burns Lake to attend celebrations and visits with friends. Frequent trips were made each summer to the far north.
People will remember Margaret most for her diaries, containing the weather, special events and birthdays. Those diaries solved a lot of arguments. If you didn't get a card for your anniversary or birthday the phone would light up and you could probably count yourself busy for at least half an hour. She loved keeping in touch with family and friends.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents Jim and Rosa Gowans.
She is survived by her children June (Sam) Pullano, Wendy Berg, Allan (Amy) Berg; grandchildren Nick (Cheryl) Pullano, Tony (Sapphire) Pullano, Katrina O'Byrne (Matt Engel). Nicole (Steve) Edwards, Erik (Natalie) Berg, James Berg and Josee Berg, as well as many great grandchildren.
Rest in Peace Mom.
A Celebration of Life for Margaret will be held in the spring.
