“Taste,” George Hemphill thoughtfully explains, “is for interior designers. My job is about quality.”
Since derby season is right around the corner, we’ve re-tooled this classic from our archives for your drinking pleasure. Enjoy!
Okay, so this one isn’t in the District. In fact, it’s not even in the greater metropolitan area. To visit Johnny Cupcakes, you’ll have to be in Boston (our second favorite city in the world). Of course there’s a website, but where’s the fun in that?
If you’re ever near the new convention center (yes, I realize I should stop refering to it as the “new” convention center) and you find yourself craving a delicious microbrew, pop in to the first of several Old Dominion franchises slated to open in the DC area.
I am on a mission, friends: To repair your notion of Riesling. Chances are, when you hear Riesling, you’ll tend to think of a generally sweet and froufrou kind of wine that any self-respecting Barolo drinker wouldn’t be caught within ten hectares of. Before I explain why you should Riesling deserves your respect, let me explain why you hardly give it a second thought right now.

Mmm…wine! We’ve missed this festival that past few years, so we can’t vouch for it personally; however, it looks promising, and we’re hoping it lives up to the hype.
I try not making snap judgements, particularly when there’s a new restaurant involved. I like to bide my time and see if a newcomer to the evening dining scene is worthwhile. Of course, in this city if you take too long you’re bound to miss out. I think in this case, should Viridian bow out of the restaurant landscape, it won’t be missed.
Life in the District is a guide to getting by in Washington, DC.
