Annie Joyce Minger, was born November 23, 1915 in Whalesbrook, Newfoundland.
Joyce passed away on November 27, 2004 at the age of 89 years at the “Pines” with her loving family at her side. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and a friend to many. This dear soul came to Canada in 1921 at the age of seven years with her mother. Joyce’s mother remarried in Victoria in 1921, and then they moved to Burns Lake in 1923.
Joyce married George Minger on January 18, 1927 in Vancouver, where they lived for about a year. Then they moved back to Burns Lake, where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Joyce always said that she was a “Newfie” first, and a Canadian second.
In 1993, Joyce with four of her daughters and one grandson went on a trip of a life time to Newfoundland. It truly was a trip of a life time for Joyce and a treasure that the girls and grandsons will never forget.
The things that Joyce loved most in her life, was playing cards (especially crib). She actually had a 29 hand and had her name in the newspaper. Joyce belonged to the Royal Purple and was the District Deputy of the order for several years and travelled to Ottawa and met Prime Minister Trudeau. Joyce was a member of the Goodwill Club, Red Cross and Arthritis Society. Joyce also enjoyed her bowling and going to other towns to bowl. In later years Joyce joined the Legion and enjoyed many afternoons playing cards and socializing.
Joyce also travelled with the Braves Hockey Team from 1976 to 1978. Joyce really enjoyed the game and did her share of cheering the team on.
On of Joyce’s most favourite times was family gatherings at Christmas and special holidays, such as the Mother’s Day picnic. Joyce lived for the camping trips with the family. After George passed away, Joyce became active doing things with the Seniors. Joyce, especially enjoyed the trips to Prince George, and she even had a special seat that no one dare sit in.
Joyce spent the last one and half years of her life residing at the Pines, where she was well looked after by the Staff, who always enjoyed her sassiness and her singing.
Joyce will be forever loved, remembered and survived by: Daughters: Madeleine (Lawrence) Loveseth, Edna (Sam) Roth, Beverlyann (Alex) Hawse, Joyce (Earl) Weber, Marjorie (Jim) Goertzen.
Sons: James (Kay) Minger, Robert (Rachel) Minger.
Sisters: Vera (Jack) Lysne. 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren.
In memory of Joyce, donations to “Pines Gazebo Fund” would be sincerely appreciated. Joyce would lay in her bed and would watch and waited for it to be ready for her to go out to it.
