A staple of the Toyota fleet for over 25 years, the RAV4 first made a debut in North America in 1996 as a 1997 model. Many credit Toyota for starting the compact sport utility market with the original Toyota RAV4, as it was one of the very first crossovers ever produced. Right from the get-go, the RAV4 was an incredible success and opened up a whole new market segment that didn’t exist before.
